Before you choose a place in Perungudi
01The dump yardIt sits on the western edge. Residents on the nearest streets still report odour, especially after rain. Ask which direction the PG faces and visit in the evening before you commit.
02Ask about the water sourceSome buildings here have a Metrowater connection and others are entirely on borewell and tanker. The Nemmeli allocation was to a stretch, not to every street. Ask directly.
03December 2023 is the question to askNot "does it flood" but "what happened on this street that month". Ask the owner and two neighbours, and ask about ground-floor rooms specifically.

Does the Perungudi dump yard still smell?
On the streets nearest to it, yes, particularly after rain. The site covers around 200 acres on the edge of the Pallikaranai marsh and has been in use for decades. Biomining has cleared most of the legacy waste and roughly 96 acres have been reclaimed, with an eco-park planned, so it is a smaller problem than it was. Effect drops off sharply with distance and wind direction.
Is there a metro station in Perungudi?
Not running yet. Nehru Nagar is the northern end of the elevated OMR section of Corridor 3, with Kandanchavadi and Perungudi stations also planned on this stretch. The line is currently targeted for 2027 and dates have moved before, so check CMRL for the position.
Does Perungudi flood?
Parts of it did badly in December 2023, when Cyclone Michaung put around 45 cm of rain on the Perungudi–Thoraipakkam–Sholinganallur stretch in a single day, the highest in the city. The causes are structural: undersized stormwater drains, a corridor built partly on filled wetland, and missing drainage exits toward the marsh. It varies street by street.
